"The “Ophelia” bridal collection pulls its inspiration from the romanticism of the 1930’s Midwest and the Great Dust Bowl, combining obscure elements of vintage design from the era and highlighting the simple and naturalistic style reflected in elements such as handmade cotton lace appliqué. The bride who wears this collection values tradition and femininity, and wants to exude those qualities on her special day. This collection was Kate’s first bridal collection debut.
We first showcased the bride and the groom as if they were getting ready before their wedding day, in a much more optimistic and hopeful mood, complete with beautiful florals and a lovely cake. The images then progress to the moody shots, where the bride and the groom are being separated by the impending dust storm, as the groom must find work elsewhere out West, leaving his heart broken bride.
Through this shoot, I wanted tell the story of a couple on their wedding day as if it were taking place in the midst of the Great Dust Bowl. Vintage post cards, furniture pieces, and knick-knacks brought the venue back in time. Almost everyone who participated in the shoot provided their own piece of history, whether it be a photograph of their own grandmother getting married, a family heirloom from that time period, or the names of their grandparents on the invitation stationary.
I had the pleasure of working with several incredible vendors to make this vision come to life. Below is the list of the talent people who curated and executed this shoot.
